The other day was the first of the year snowfall here in Western Washington. A light dusting of an inch or so depending on where you are at in the city. Here in Bellevue it was about an inch.
What was, as a kid wonderful and magical for adults seems an hassle. The roads are slick, people have forgotten since last year how to navigate around in it, and to top it off it is right before Thanksgiving. What a mess…or?
What if we took time to step back and remember the magic of it all. Catching those first flakes on our tongues, trying to pack whatever we could into a ball to throw at our brothers and friends, and building the first of the season snowman. Not a care was ours, the quiet of the falling snow, the peacefulness of the moment and the smiles on faces.
Maybe we should remember those feelings, take a step back and just be. If only for a moment, a quiet sigh for the day, just for a moment. The first snowfall is special and should be treated with magic and wonder.
Go ahead, go out and catch a snowflake or two before you run around for the day.
